1. Shelters and Rehabilitation
1a. PARANIPUTHUR – is our first shelter, a refuge for over 150 mentally challenged destitute women, with round the
clock Nursing care and Ambulance support. Mentally challenged destitute women from the streets are brought in by the
police, other NGO’s and general public. They immediately go through a complete health assessment, a treatment plan is
made and immediately put into action. Beyond the basic needs of Food, Clothing, Shelter and Psychiatric medication we
also provide vocational training in a field that our women are interested and capable to work in.
1b. SOMANGALAM (KARUNAGARACHERRY – KC) – is a beautiful natural facility with flourishing flora and fauna,
providing space, freedom and fresh air to the destitute women who live here. Once the physical and mental health of
the new beneficiary stabilizes to an extent they are shifted here with an objective of rehabilitation and probable
repatriation. Dairy farming – breeding of cows, goats, pigs, poultry farming, rabbits, breeding of ornamental birds and
fishes, agriculture initiatives and production of cleaning agents are all rehabilitation projects that provide our destitute
women with an opportunity to work which helps our women to get skilled in vocations that could help them earn a
living when repatriation happens. Balanced work is also one of the influencing factors that improves the mental health
of our women.
1c. SOMANGALAM – METTUR is mostly occupied by our major sustenance project, our Hospice Unit – Rehoboth
Endeavour for the Sick and Traumatized – REST, which is a facility which supports the elderly and the sick, providing
them a 24 x 7 environment of love, comfort, nursing care and a healthy nutritional diet. The beneficiaries pay a very
minimal amount for all the facilities and care they are provided. Other sustenance initiatives such as Areca plate
making, Tailoring, Embroidery, Gada bag production and AASAI a thrift store are all housed in the same campus.
1d. KUDUMBAM – This Initiative is actually a family unit that is made up of our mentally challenged destitute women
who have recovered well enough and are capable of taking on responsibilities and are able to work consistently. They
are guided and supported by one of our senior nursing staff acting as their mother. The objective of this initiative is to
help our women experience a home like environment to make repatriation possible when the time is right. One of our
major successes has been that we have replaced most of our paid caretakers in our Hospice unit with our well recovered
mentally challenged destitute women, giving them great pride and self-confidence.
2a. REHOBOTH ENDEAVOUR FOR THE SICK AND THE TRUAMATIZED – REST provides 40 men and women an alternative
home which is a Home for the elderly as well as a Hospice Centre for those with medical conditions that require 24 x7
care, some of our beneficiaries have psychological conditions as well. We provide 24 x 7 Nursing Care, in person duty
doctor and a High Dependency Room with medical facilities to support the medical emergency needs of our residents.
Our residents enjoy the love and care of our well trained medical staff, creating a friendly environment that give our
residents comfort and security, along with a well-balanced nutritional diet.
2b. AASAI – is a thrift store, another one of our self-sustenance projects, wherein we sell the used and
reusable household items, electrical & electronic goods, furniture, dresses and miscellaneous items donated by donors
and well-wishers.
